Talking Up CURE in Charlotte

September 10, 2012

Last week, I was down in Charlotte for the DNC. It was an incredible—but exhausting!—experience, to say the least. While I’m happy to be back home in Chicago, I had a fabulous time, and took every opportunity to spread the word about CURE and the importance of epilepsy research. I met a lot of folks who I hope will help us launch epilepsy into the spotlight. We really need to raise the visibility of this disease, especially considering that 1 in 26 Americans will develop epilepsy in their lifetime!

Check out some of the great pics below.

My son Ethan and I got a chance to talk to Charlie Rose, who does a fabulous collection, “The Brain Series.”

I also caught up with long-time friend Randy Mehrberg while there. Here we are (he’s on the far left) with Diane Sawyer, Kevin Sheekey (Deputy Mayor for Government Affairs to Mayor Bloomberg), and another great CURE friend, Tammy Haddad

with our friends Nan Schaffer and Karen Dixon. We rushed in from the pouring rain (which is why we look a little water logged!)

I even got to meet a celebrity! Kevin Sheekey and I with Richard Schiff from “The West Wing”

with Debbie Dingell, whose husband is Congressman John Dingell from Michigan

So many famous faces! Here I am with Trish Regan, host of “Street Smart”

with my friends of many years, Senator Durbin and his wife Loretta

No event is complete without your commemorative photo! Here with Tammy Haddad and Kevin Sheekey

And, some great news: We are honored to be nominated by one of our supporters for inclusion in JP Morgan Chase’s 2012 Community Giving Campaign. This program is specially designed to spread awareness of nonprofit organizations while also giving them the chance to compete for their share of a $5 million grant sponsored by Chase. You can vote every day until September 19th, either by visiting Chase’s Community Giving Facebook page or www.ChaseGiving.com if you are a Chase customer. Please vote to show your support for CURE! And spread the word!
